Jetty 2 Jetty is a race steeped in history

Jetty 2 Jetty has come a long way since the first race from Rotary Park to Woody Point organised by the Moreton Bay Road Runners 35 years ago.

Andy Almond from MBRR says the race is embedded in the club’s history.

“The club started in 1985 and in 1986 they picked up on the great success of fun runs,” Andy says.

In 1986, there were 120 entrants. This year’s race will have more than 4000.

Andy says while J2J started as a fun run mainly for locals, the region as a whole has come to benefit from the event.

“The value it has for the community – it brings people in from all over Brisbane and Queensland – we’ve had some big names over the years,” he says.

“Everybody who visits the area comes out to the Peninsula – it’s great for our businesses.”

Andy says the race has donated money to a local charity since the 1990s and this year’s beneficiary, Peninsula Animal Aid, was a cause close to his heart.

“I have two rescue dogs – not from Peninsula Animal Aid – but the work they do is wonderful,” he says.

Entries for the Redcliffe Markets Half Marathon, the GKS Law 10km run/walk and the Sesame Lane 3lm run/walk have sold out, but there are limited spots still available for the Planet Fitness 5km run/walk and the GKS Law Wheelchair 10km races.
